Respecting culture – Providing a future

Even before becoming a dentist it was my dream to be able to help people in practical ways through my profession. Dreams coming true is a great thing.

From 1998 to 2002 I was in Yemen with my family and a professional team, where I was active as an aid worker. We worked on developing the community. It was important to us to involve our local partners in the project from the very beginning, during the planning stages. This way we were able to put several health projects in place. We also built schools or improved the drinking water situations when the village communities expressed interest.

Unfortunately my family and I had to leave Yemen after four years there, due to health reasons. Our team continued to work there until 2009, when they handed the responsibility for the project over to the local community. At the moment our colleagues are in other parts of the country working on Health Awareness and Training of Skilled Personnel
